Clay 25 Celebrations and Announcement

18th September 2018

The gallery was packed with visitors for the private view again this year and we so enjoyed catching up with old faces and meeting new ones. It is an exciting time for ceramics, with makers introducing new work to the scene, some of which is on display at the gallery. We have been delighted with the feedback from visitors and Tim has been especially touched by messages sent from all over the world congratulating him on his 40 years in ceramics. The double celebration was an opportunity for Tim to thank his dear family and friends, without whom the exhibitions wouldn’t be possible, and for his daughters to congratulate and thank him for his huge contribution to ceramics so far. It was marked with a book printed for Tim filled with images from across the 4 decades and notes from family and potter friends from across the world including Japan, India and America. An emotional evening the family were delighted to share these moments with their loyal supporters, who have become an extension of the family. We would like to thank all who have supported Tim and the gallery over the years, and we look forward to many more exhibitions in the future.

Clay 25 is open until October 7  / Tues – Sun / 11-5

Tim also announced that he will be taking a short break from shows in Woodbury in order to make time to develop new work, to prepare for some large shows around the world and to have a well-deserved rest! Do keep an eye on your emails though as there will be news coming your way about events in the meantime, and of course the date for the next exhibition at the gallery. It would be most helpful if you could ensure our email address (timandrews@eclipse.com) is marked as ‘not spam’ as we have been informed that a lot of our emails are being mistaken for junk.

Thank you once again for your continued support, we are looking forward to welcoming you to the gallery soon. Please join our mailing list by emailing us to be the first to hear about news from Tim and the gallery.

The count down begins!

2nd September 2018

Preparations are well underway for our upcoming exhibition – Clay 25. This show is a very special celebration for Tim and the gallery as it marks 40 years working as a ceramisist and 25 years of exhibitions here at Woodbury Gallery, Devon. In the run up to this show we have been looking back and reminiscing about the vast number of artists that have displayed work here and the thousands of visitors that have come through the doors. Tim and family are so thankful to all that have supported the gallery over the last 25 years, and especially those that make the annual trip as we have enjoyed catching up year after year. It really is a wonderful thing to put on every year (despite the sleepless nights!) and we look forward to many more exhibitions in the future.

Tim has been hard at work putting together a list of wonderful makers and throwing and firing new work for this historic show. We have unpacked some beautiful pieces that have been sent from all over the world and are so thankful to potter friends old and new for sending such an array of work to display. This show really is going to be a special one, not to be missed and Tim looks forward to welcoming you to the gallery.

Tims 40th Year

23rd May 2018

We are thrilled to announce the dates for our upcoming very special exhibition! Tim has been working as a ceramicist for 40 years and we are celebrating in style with a fantastic series of shows across the world. Tim will be hosting an exciting exhibition of his own work and pieces from friends across the globe at his studio in Devon 15th Sept – 7th October. We are looking forward to welcoming friends and customers new and old to the gallery to celebrate this special moment in Tims career. It really is one not to be missed!

Later on in the year he is flying back across the globe to Japan to exhibit alongside friend and fellow ceramic artist Toshio Ohi who Tim has worked with for a while now and who he recently visited whilst on a family trip to Japan with his daughters and their families. He is then going to Australia to show another exhibition and there are a few more things in the pipeline too – but you’ll have to check in and read about those soon!

For more information on any of the upcoming exhibitions please check our ‘current exhibitions’ and ‘events’ pages. Alternatively, you can contact us at  timandrews@eclipse.co.uk to join our mailing list for all the latest information and invitations to upcoming exhibitions or to ask any questions you may have.

Clay 24 and 40 years!

26th August 2017

After a short haitus our Autumn show is back this year running from the 22nd September – 1st October. Tim is thrilled to invite some special friends to showcase their beautiful pieces at his gallery in Devon. Whilst in Japan Tim hand selected pieces by dear friend and fellow master craftsman Tadami Hirota and these special works will be on show for this short time only, so this exhibition is really not to be missed.

We are gearing up for several major shows across the UK and indeed the world to celebrate Tim’s 40th year in ceramics. Tim has some one off new pieces coming off the wheel to mark this land mark. With some very exciting major locations in the pipeline keep your ear to the ground for the dates to be released in the coming months.

Wonderful Opening!

30th May 2016

With the sun shining all day it was so good to see the garden and gallery full of visitors, friends, family and collectors. Our special guest Tadami Hirota has produced a wonderful selection of pieces especially for this show and so far has received a great deal of attention and admiration. He sent a large amount of work and pieces are selling fast but there are still some lovely items available. The garden has matured in the last year and it was a surprise to many to find the addition of a country cottage garden which I have recently built and planted. Heather Jansch’s horse sculptures look magnificent in their settings along with works by Laurel Keeley, Peter Hayes, George Hider and many other artists. We hope that the weather continues to be kind and we look forward to welcoming you here during the course of the show.

Open everyday 11am – 5pm (except Mondays – I need a day off these days!!) Last official day is Friday 17th June and then Sat 18th & Sun 19th the garden will be open along with two other gardens in the village under the National Garden Scheme in aid of charitable causes. Admission for NGS weekend £3.50 for all three gardens.

Clay 23 | Solo:Solar

12th May 2016

We are hard at work in the hot sun here in the garden and gallery preparing for Clay 23 | Solo:Solar opening May 28th – June 17th. It will be the only exhibition at Tim Andrews Gallery this year as, in true One Direction style, our annual autumn show is taking a well deserved hiatus!

This year’s spring show will display an array of wonderful garden pieces by top artists, set against new garden landscaping and an opportunity to see the now established plants and ponds. The gallery will also be filled to the brim show casing beautiful pieces from all over the world, including new work in the studio from top ceramic artist Tadami Hirota. After the outstanding response to Mr Hirota’s exquisite pieces, I have been thrilled to commission and curate this new solo exhibition by this fantastic potter and hand selected these special pieces with Mr Hirota whilst in Japan earlier this year.

For more information on this exciting exhibition see our Current Exhibitions page

I look forward to welcoming you in a few weeks to the garden and gallery – this really is a show not to be missed!

Tim

Happy New Year!

22nd January 2016

Slightly belated but we’re still in January so in my book it still counts -sort of! It’s all go here at the studio getting ready for a jam packed 2016. Next month I’ll be teaching a throwing tea pot course at West Dean and travelling to Japan to work with a dear friend. I might even bring home a few select pieces for an exhibition of high quality Japanese work in the spring so keep your eyes peeled for that news!

In April I will be at Ceramic Art London displaying new work in their new location at Central st Martins, a show never to be missed. Then I’m teaching again, this time a Raku course at Coombe Farm Studios in my home county, Devon.

Like One Direction, this year the autumn show is taking a well deserved hiatus. My annual spring garden show this year called Clay 23|Solo:Solar open May 28th – June 17th will include a full gallery exhibition show casing high quality beautiful pieces from all over the world. A date for the diary, you don’t want to miss it!

Later on in the year I’m back teaching at Coombe Farm and then heading to Australia for a guest appearance at Pot Over and various other shows to get home in time for Christmas!!

You can find more details and links to external sites on the events page.

Phew, as I said its jam packed! I’d better get back in to the studio and get making!!

Over and out for now,

Tim

The Great Pottery Throw Down

18th November 2015

If you caught my 15 seconds of fame on BBC2’s new show ‘The Great Pottery Throw Down‘ you have my sympathies!  You’ve got 29 days to watch this good face for radio – if your eyes can take it! Click here for the link. I am teaching a Raku course at Coombe Farm Studios in Devon 18th – 22nd April which I hear is sold out but they are taking a waiting list. I’m also back at West Dean College teaching a throwing teapots and teaware course 4th – 7th February and a Raku based summer school in July 2016. Both great places to stay and learn. Just as a reminder my Raku book is still in print with A&C black and available from various outlets or contact me for a copy.

**BREAKING NEWS**
By popular demand we are also delighted to welcome the work of Clare Conrad to this year’s Autumn Exhibition CLAY 22.
Clare makes unique stoneware pots, distinctive for the painterly exploration of colour and texture. Her layering technique provides a rugged, yet refined texture to contrast with the smooth interior.
